The primary clinical object of Perinatal Ireland is to improve women's and children's health. Areas of particular interest include:
• Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR),
• Discordant growth in twins,
• Prevention of stillbirth,
• Prediction of preterm labour,
• Telemedicine.
The consortium has published the key findings of its first major study - the ESPRIT Study, a 2 year programme, which recruited over 1000 twin pregnancies (from 2008-2010) in order to evaluate sonographic predictors of restricted growth. The ESPRiT study also examined the correlation of Doppler waveform patterns with placental morphology in twin pregnancies.
